Cops Busted is not about bashing the Police, but that few bad apples. For the most part, most Police Officers are respectable, but in current years I am not happy with the trend and course Law Enforcement has taken. Did they forget they are Public Servants - To SERVE and PROTECT! Cops are not above the law, nor are they better than other people.

I can only assume the Pembroke Pines Police Department thinks they are above the law!
I understand the argument that most police officers bring up when challenged with parking in fire lanes:
- If a fire breaks out, the police is already there to assist
- Quick response to their vehicles in cases of emergency
- ....
But here is my problem with all this:
Fire lanes are designed to allow access to fire engines as they respond to incidents. Because the fire trucks are pretty large, and require a larger turning radius, these fire lanes are designed to allow them close proximity access to building if, and when needed. Therefore, a police vehicle, or any vehicle, parked in a fire lane is an obstruction, and a breech of access for the fire trucks.
Not just that, but this Pembroke Pines Police officer is parked in a fire lane at a school - what are we teaching our kids - "do as I say and not as I do"?
I feel that Law Enforcement should not just enforce laws, but also lead by example - this means parking correctly, and (I know this one is hard for Police Officers) but also follow and respect the speed limit along with all other traffic law - which they surely enforce.
This certain Pembroke Pines Police officer not just chose to park in a fire lane, send a message to our kids that he/she is above the law, but also cause an obstruction and therefore a traffic problem when the parents are taking their kids to school.
Pembroke Pines Police - Please enforce our laws equally - If you enforce the traffic laws on civilians, enforce them on yourselves as well, Lead by example!3
I failed to mention one other thing, the parking lot is not but another 15 feet away, with plenty of visitor parking which is almost always available. The Visitor parking is actually closer to the entrance/exit than this location - so as for a quick response, it's better to park in visitor parking.
Next time maybe the Pembroke Pines Police department can park correctly, make example of how we should all respect fire lanes, and teach our younger generation that law enforcement not just enforces laws, but also respects them!
OK, so before everyone goes off on me for posting this:
I take my kids to school everyday, about 80% of the time there is a Pembroke Pines Police vehicle parked somewhere in the fire lane. Not just parked in the fire lane, but on corner, where it would truly be an obstruction should a fire truck need to turn that corner. I doubt it would be too difficult to find a visitor parking.
I know most of the Police Officer in the city of Pembroke Pines are great people; but folks let's lead by example and provide a positive image for our kids to follow!

Before we make assumptions it is better to gather information on what we are talking about. This is my senior year at Flanagan High school which happens to be where that police car is parked, and i also happen to recognize that car. The police car belongs to one of the schools SRO (School Resource Officers): An officer who is assigned to and works at the school everday 7:40-2:40.
You may or may not be aware but at Walter C. Young Middle School because they are a middle school they have one SRO officer assigned therefore there is a specially designated parking spot for him/her at the front of the school. At Flanagan High school to where there are two assigned police officers there are no designated parking spots for SRO officers. Those parking spots serve office personnel and teachers as well as visitors and if your not there early by the time school starts it will cause them to have to park towards the back, which is not helpful if there is an emergency such as a bomb threat or five hour lock down.
Secondly the parking spot is all the way to the rear of the fire lane, it is not an impediment to parents nor fire trucks, I know because I attend the school and have seen situations which require fire trucks. The police car is parked there for a reason, not just for emergencies but to be seen. That parking lot is a visitor parking lot and the two SRO officers park their cars their so that people are aware that there is a police presence on campus. Should they park in the visitor parking lot there presence to students and any one else will be less wildly seen. As a student i find safety in seeing their cars their because I know that they are always around.
Thirdly you are failing to overlook that they do not park in that spot all of the time, most of the time when school begins they move their cars and are not parked there. There is also no legal basis, if you ever read the sign for a fire lane you will see that they say no parking by order of the police AND fire dept. therefore they have a right to park there just as any fire truck would.
